In 2018, Miss Jennings realized that there was simply not enough time in her daily classroom schedule to teach reading thoroughly. In most cases, students who could not keep up fell drastically behind because of the curriculum pace. As she started talking to teachers from different grades, she discovered that they also agreed that curriculum pace was a major issue, but not the only issue. There were also huge reading gaps between students from different nationalities and backgrounds, including those living in two-parent homes or single-parent homes, and especially those students who live with ESOL, ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, and other learning challenges. Then, COVID happened.
Studies show that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on school scores, and even to this day, the effects are still being felt. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Miss Jennings didn't give up and instead embraced virtual learning, using it as an opportunity to expand her knowledge and skills.
Miss Jennings is a strong advocate of reading for children, as she believes that it provides them with countless opportunities to learn, explore the world, and develop good citizenship skills. Her fiery desire for equal opportunities for all students is what began her pursuit to aid in closing reading gaps across America. The heartfelt mission of Reading With Miss Jennings is to help students of all learning styles, unique needs, and backgrounds succeed inside and outside of the classroom. She truly believes that with Christ anything is possible!
